There’s so much more to being you.

It’s not going to be easy. Getting to the heart of things never is.

I’m Much More Social’s founder Ella Orr, and retraining in social media marketing happened by chance. That is, if you consider a journey in the making chance. As a teacher, I was always a communicator. Community was essential; results critical.

But more than anything, I developed an understanding for how to see the individual – how to bring out all the unique aspects that combined are the sum of a person’s core. And those years in the classroom prepared me for the next steps of my journey – although I didn’t realise it then.

Having spent the lion’s share of my career in education, a need for change began to manifest. An inkling at first, that eventually grew fierce. When my mother passed away, I was reminded of that one thing I’d always been told: Life is for now. If you want to do something, do it now.

Unfamiliar and uncomfortable as it was, I seized the chance. In the process of changing my career, I discovered something that would shift my mindset fundamentally: the immense power of an online community. And that sitting at the heart of those communities was the one thing that I had always been intrigued by, and always worked with: People.

The thing is, Much More Social’s story isn’t actually my story at all. It’s yours.

It’s about what happens when we tap into the things that make us us. How powerful that uniqueness is. How social media is the most wide-spanning channel in the world to harness community and identity.

What I slowly began to realise as I embarked into this new and unknown world was that it didn’t matter that I didn’t fit into the box. That I changed my career late in life. In fact, my lack of conformity was my online community-building superpower.

Nothing beats humanity.

It doesn’t matter where you’ve been, or where you’re headed. It doesn’t matter that you’re different, that you don’t know what to do or how to do it. It doesn’t matter that you’re scared. The point is, if you’re willing to be honest and seize those chances for connection that social media holds, a world of possibility unlocks for your business.

It’s such a cliché, isn’t it? But if you’re true to yourself, magic happens. Seriously. Your audience will see it. Your customers will feel it. And you will grow.
